The Drovers Inn – Case Study

The Drovers Inn is a world renowned hotel, pub and restaurant situated just a few miles north of Loch Lomond. It proudly boasts Rob Roy as one of its prior guests and is crammed full of colourful taxidermy, quirky antiques and kilt-wearing staff.

The owners of The Drovers Inn wanted a promotional film which truly captured the unique character and personality of their 300 year old hotel.

With all this in mind, we had to produce something which would generate interest and fully embody the spirit and atmosphere of the venue and its surroundings.

We began with a storyboard, detailing what we would hope to achieve from the film. We had to answer these very simple questions:

• WHO stays at the Drovers? Aerial shots of the surrounding area were vital, since the nearby Munroes, hills, rivers, loch and countryside are a focal point for many of the Drovers visitors and guests (hill walkers, bikers, tourists etc).
• WHAT do they get when they stay? In just seven short and simple shots, totalling less than 30 seconds, we showed: a warm welcome, comfy clean room, an inviting bar and quality food.
• WHY is The Drovers so unique? Undoubtedly, the Drovers’ biggest selling point is the bar, the staff and the food. So over two visits, we filmed guests relaxing, drinking and enjoying themselves. It was vital that this ‘enjoyment’ was natural and organic. The tagline ‘Check in as strangers, Check out as friends’ had to be reflected but in a natural, non-scripted way.

The video was teased the day before on Facebook and uploaded and shared directly onto The Drovers Inn Facebook page at 1pm on Friday 9^th September 2016. Within 24 hours, the post had been seen over 150,000 times. At the time of writing, the film has had over 350,000 hits, over 115,000 full views and 2.6k shares! This has translated into a surge of booking enquiries, 1000 new page likes and increased awareness on a global scale. But fundamentally, the Drovers Inn now has a marketing and promotional tool to drive future sales for the foreseeable future.
